"The Way We Were"
Growing up, the one song I heard over and over and over again was “The Way We Were.” My mom loved it, and the movie. I grew to like the song, as well. In fact, it’s on my iPod.
However, I had never seen the film. It arrived from Netflix on Wednesday, and I finally watched it today.
The movie is nothing like I had expected. For some reason, I thought the whole film was going to be a flashback, seen from the point of view of a “radical” woman, about her love affair with a conservative man… and the way their relationship tragically ended.
Instead, it was a story about “radical” woman and her relationship with a normal guy, seen over 10 years. It drags a little a times, but overall it’s quite nice.
Barbara Streisand’s character actually reminds me of an old girlfriend, so I can see why Redford’s character spends most of his life exasperated. Still, in the end, he’s better for the relationship. Hmm. See what I did there? I ended up siding with the guy, when all she wanted was for him to be the best man he could be and for him to love her as much as she loved him.
Great, I think I need a therapist.
I liked the movie. But, unlike my mom, I didn’t love it. Maybe it’s a chick thing.
